LEDs are rapidly changing the world of lightning due to their efficiency, size, durability, lifetime cost and reduced environmental impact.

In many countries new legislations are encouraging the consumers to replace conventional light bulbs with more energy saving options.

The world wide LED market in lightning applications increased from $1.2 billion in 2010 to $1.8 billion in 2011.

The new innovations are emerging to the market in order to challenge the dominance of aluminium as a material of choice in LED cooling. Plastics are a logical choice, however, the performance demands are very high.

While metals are often chosen for their high thermal conductivity, many applications do not require this high thermal transfer.
